ABOUT UDOM EMMANUEL Executive Governor Of Akwa Ibom State
Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is the 4th democratically elected Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He was sworn-in to office on the 29th of May 2015 and will serve a term of four years (in the first instance).
A thoroughly-bred professional and an outstanding public servant, he has adopted a pragmatic approach to the leadership of the State, anchoring his administration on deep Christian and moral values. Mr. Udom Emmanuel is focus on the human capital development of his people to meet global standards. He is also passionate about the provision of infrastructure to accelerate all round development as well as the rapid industrialization of the State to create more employment opportunities for the citizens and residents of the State.
Within the first 100 days in office, Mr. Udom Emmanuel hit the ground running with the inauguration of several development projects across the State..
Governor Emmanuel has also launched a moral rebirth and self motivation initiative, the dakkada campaign, urging Akwa Ibomites to rise to the faith of greatness.
His Excellency Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel was born in Awa Iman, a City in Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He attended his primary education around the same community in his early years.
At completion, he went to Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet, Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom State, from where he obtained his West African Examination Council’s Certificate (WAEC).
From there, he went on to attend the School of Arts and Science, Uyo, where he received his Advanced Certificate of Basic Studies (CBS) and a Higher School Certificate (HSC), and transferred to the University of Lagos, Nigeria, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, in 1988. He also attended the Advanced Management Program at INSEAD, France. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession and trained with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management.
Before venturing into public service Mr. Udom Emmanuel was Executive Director on the Board of Zenith Bank from December 2006 until his appoitment as Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government. He also served as Audit Manager of Price Waterhouse Coopers. He has served as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria as well as the Chief Financial Officer of Zenith Bank Plc. His Excellency Mr. Udom Emmanuel has served as Group Head of Income Optimization, Financial Control & Strategic Planning Department at Zenith Bank, where he also served as General Manager of Zenith Bank PLC.
He joined Zenith in 1996 from Diamond Bank Limited and was the pioneer Manager of its Lagos Central Branch. He was in charge of the Telecommunications Sector, Income Optimization and Financial & Strategic Planning Group of Zenith Bank Plc. He has over seventeen years financial services experience. He served as an Executive Director of Zenith Bank Plc.
He also doubled as Non-Executive Director, Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) from 2008 to the time of his appointment as Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government in 2013. He has served as a Director, Nigerian Inter-bank Settlement Systems (NIBBS) from 2009; Non-Executive Director, Zenith Bank, United Kingdom; Zenith Bank- Gambia; Zenith Bank-Sierra Leone; Zenith Insurance; Zenith Pensions and Custodian; Zenith Securities; Zenith Trustees and Zenith Registrars.
He obeyed the clarion call of his people and resigned as Secretary to the State Government to contest the Governorship election of 2015, which he won overwhelmingly under the flagship of the Peoples Democratic Party. Mr. Udom Emmanuel was sworn in to office on May 29, 2015 and is servicing his first term in Office.

Udom Gabriel Emmanuel was born on July 11, 1966, into the family of Ette Teacher Gabriel Emmanuel Nkenang, a native of Awa Iman in Onna Local Government, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He rose from being a Sunday school leader at United Evangelical Church (QIC) (formerly Qua Iboe Church) to become a bank director. Emmanuel and his family are strong members of United Evangelical Church (QIC), Nigeria.
Emmanuel served as an audit manager of Price Waterhouse Coopers. He is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. He served as chief financial officer of Zenith Bank Plc.
Emmanuel also served as group head of Income Optimization, Financial Control & Strategic Planning Department at Zenith Bank.

Udom Emmanuel’s political career has been one of the most controversial areas of his life. His gubernatorial campaign is widely believed to have been sponsored by his predecessor. Godswill Akpabio had publicly admitted his total support for, and sponsor of Udom’s ambition before and after the election. He was quoted severally as saying “let God’s will be done again, again and again”.
Emmanuel was elected governor of Akwa Ibom State on 11 April 2015.He was sworn-in on 29 May 2015.With his dakkada philosophy. He ran successfully for the office of governor in the April 2015 elections on the platform of Akwa Ibom State People's Democratic Party. In 2015, he was elected Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Running under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he won with 999,071 votes to defeat APC's candidate Umana Okon Umana who scored 89,865 votes of the All Progressive Congress and was declared elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
