DEBBIE’S DIARY
Episode 21
By Jennifer Owens
Debbie’s POV continues
No my brother can’t die, he’s all I’ve got.
I sprung up, running toward the burning building but Dylan held me back.
“no let me go, I have to save my brother ” I cried but he held me tight.
“let the fire extinguisher get here ” he said still holding.
“no let me go, Dylan let me go, it’s Liam we’re talking about so let me go ” I cried trying to loose free from his hold.
I saw the fire extinguisher coming down from their car and running to quench the fire.
After some few mins, they came out with someone burnt in the emergency bed.
The person was badly burnt that you can’t even look at it twice.
I rushed to them and they took the person into the ambulance and drove away.
Dylan dragged me to his car and we followed them from behind.
“Dylan my brother can’t die, he can’t ” I kept on crying.
“it’s okay Debbie, he won’t, I will make sure he gets all the treatments even if it means taking him abroad ” he said.
“Liam please don’t leave me” I cried more.
We arrived at the hospital and Liam was rushed in.
Doctors and nurses kept running helter skelter.
Dylan and I were pacing back and forth.
After what seems like months or years, a doctor cane out from the ICU and we ran to him.
“Yes doctor, tell me my brother is safe” I urged him but he wasn’t saying anything.
“speak” I yelled.
“we are sorry, we lost him”
Those words blasted my ear and I turned deaf and dumb and slowly my vision faded.
“Debbie, hey Debbie please don’t do this too” I heard a familiar voice crying.
I slowly opened my eyes to see Dylan beside me and I was in the bed with a drip fixed in me.
I sat up on the bed and everything came flushing back.
Liam is dead? No it was just a dream and I just woke up so let me go check on him.
I removed the drip fixed in me and got down from the bed.
“where to” Dylan asked
“to see Liam of course ” I replied with tears still pouring down like rain.
I was heading to his ward but Dylan gestured his hands towards another direction.
“this way” he said and I followed him.
We stood at the front of a door written morgue on it.
“why would Liam be in a morgue huh? Are the doctors insane” I yelled and opened the door and went in.
I saw many bodies so Dylan directed me to the one at the last roll.
I uncovered the white clothe covering the person and I almost puked at it.
OK I remembered Liam burning in the fire and he was rushed to the hospital and now here in the morgue but that doesn’t mean he’s dead……. right?
“Hey Liam get up, we have to go home” I said shaking the body but he didn’t bulge.
“Liam you’re scaring me, get up ” I yelled again.
“Debbie he’s dead” Dylan yelled.
“he’s not, he’s just asleep that’s all” I yelled back.
“really, then watch this” he took an iron from the floor and before I knew it, he hit Liam’s head with it but Liam still didn’t bulge.
I moved closer to Liam and slowly touched him with tears sliding down my cheeks.
It’s now crystal clear, Liam is gone.
My only brother
My world
My life
My happiness
My smile.
My sunshine
My star
My Liam.
Is gone.
“he’s dead, he’s dead, Dylan he’s dead, then there’s no need for me to live anymore ” I said almost in a whisper, pushed Dylan away and ran out.
